This illustration was created to accompany a paper about the potential for microbial biodiversity to benefit different environments. These three scenarios lay out the various ways that we can engage with ecosystems with this end in mind, from actively introducing appropriate microbes in highly managed agricultural settings to simply protecting the existing microbial community in conservation efforts.
