Funga is an environmental startup that seeks to harness the power of mycorrhizal fungi to boost tree growth, which would lead to an increase in carbon capture by way of increase in wood volume. The particular species of fungi in question exists underground, forming a symbiosis with the tree roots. With this in mind, I designed a logo that depicted not only the trees aboveground but also the root network belowground that sustains them.

And (intended more as a easter egg than as an element that is readily noticeable) the negative space between the trees can be seen as arrows going down, a reference to the forest's ability to draw down and sequester atmospheric carbon.
