The Beaufort Lagoon Ecosystems (BLE) is a Long Term Ecological Research (LTER) project that was founded in 2017 by the National Science Foundation. The group collects data about the physical conditions of the Beaufort Sea coast (body of water north of Alaska), and studies many aspects of the changing conditions, including how climate change is affecting permafrost thaw. The group wanted a logo that would depict the sea, the coast, and the melting ice, as all are essential to representing their research.
